Walking With Jesus
During his earthly ministry Jesus called disciples to ‘follow him’. After his resurrection the phrase that the disciples used to describe the Christian life is ‘The Way’. The imagery is both clear and compelling. We are called to a vibrant relationship and continuous commitment. Life is about walking with Jesus and going where he leads us.
“And he said to them, “Follow me…”
~ Matthew 4:19
Touching Our City
While we are called into an intimate relationship with Jesus we are also sent out to the world on his behalf. As he was sent on a mission, so are we. We are to do it in the same way he did it: with humility, service and sacrifice.
One of the remarkable things about Jesus is that he touched those around him with mercy and love. We see him touching hurting people and comforting them, touching lepers and cleansing them, touching corpses and raising them to life. We are called to flesh out the gospel by touching the life of our city with the love of Christ.
As Disciples we are called in and we are sent out. And both of those things are true of us at the same time. A deliberate walking with Jesus and touching the city is how we are seeking to love God with all that we are and love our neighbors the way we love ourselves.
“He has told you, o man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?
~ Micah 6:8
